God Keep Our Land Glorious and Free

As Quebec debates banishing the Crucifix from the National Assembly, and Canadian freedom generally disintegrates, a few lessons from the Anthem are in order.

"Protégera nos foyers et nos droits"
I think that's "Hurrah for the State, which drops off our Rights in the vestibule, so we don't even have to get up or anything".

And

"Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
"

means "All the firearms destroyed or duly registered, Let's do the same with the crosses".

Quebec's motto is Je me souviens. I don't think they get the irony.

Ha!

Thankfully, the crucifix is staying put for now, but I'm not very condident that that the Our Father in the Ontario legislature will share the same, happy fate. Anytime a government refers something to an all-party committee it's as good as dead.

So perhaps there's more than a touch of irony to Ut incepit Fidelis sic permanet as well?
