Conscientious Objection

Although the reader should not disquiet himself with even the slightest thought of my desires, however sincere they be, still it is my desire, most sincerely, not to confuse but to clarify. This in all things, or most things, or perhaps only many things. At any rate I do not like to contribute to the general state of confusion.
At that then, weeks ago, I referred to Burley tobacco and Black Cavendish tobacco as my "twin" Muses. Of course if these were twins it would be of no use to blend them, and yet it is in the blending that their splendour is revealed.
Clearly, they are not twins.
I regret the error.

Imagine my glee when I discovered today that a reader had made it to my blog, from Google, by searching "Vatican says protestants are inferior". Hit number six ain't bad for something I didn't write but sort of wish I had. The search leads to an archival page where are found two of my favourite posts: The Index of Forbidden T.V. Shows and the Summa Alcoholica.

Motu Madness

The queries have been multitudinous and yet, appropriately, univocal: Just what does Carriere think of Summorum Pontificum?
I think it's great.
In particular I am pleased with one sentence in the accompanying letter to bishops,
"I would like to draw attention to the fact that this Missal was never juridically abrogated and, consequently, in principle, was always permitted."
Justice is good.
The Faith is a permanent thing best practiced without constant concern for the mood of the day, and so perhaps the greatest benefit of all is that it will finally be possible for me to ignore entirely, on a day-to-day basis, Vatican affairs.
