Sad, not Shocking

Everyone's pretending they're still shocked to read stories like this. Small town, high school party, several boys, one girl, sex assault. Ugly details.

Of ten boys there, only one wouldn't participate.

Did he stand between the girl and her rapists? Did he fight for her? Did he call the police? Did he shout?

No. He went home.

We've told our boys that sex is trivial. We've had them suppress their nobler masculine instincts, like to protect the weaker sex.

What did we think was going to happen?
